Packed with sappy, piquant fruit, minerality and truly generous ripeness, this is potentially a great Zinfandel. The nose is a coiled medley of concentrated black raspberry, blackberry, grenadine, violet, licorice root, pink and black peppercorn and dark earthy spice scents. It is heavy in body, but tense and gripping  and beautifully focused on the palate, where dark red and black fruits seem almost muscular on the palate. The finish is very long and the wine as youthful seeming as it is flavorful. Expect another several years of growth and assume years of further pleasure after that.

The 2023 Zinfandel Monte Rosso comes from Zinfandel vines planted in iron-rich soils prior to 1900. It has open-knit, inviting aromas of dark cherries and currants, cracked pepper, cast iron, Cointreau, thyme and violets. The full-bodied palate pairs concentrated, mineral-driven flavors with fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity, and it has a long, latent finish. It will be long lived in the cellar.
