Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon, Millennium Vineyard, Rutherford, Napa Valley 2014
NVWE Notes: Rich, juicy, concentrated and fruit-dominant, the nose of this textbook "Rutherford" Cab poises notes of blackberry, dark plum, black cherry, violet and black fig above counterpoints of bitter chocolate, dark tobacco, cola, clove, root beer bark, date sugar and vanilla. Rich body, piquant juiciness and impressive tannic grip are notable in the mouth, yet opulent fruit holds center stage. The flavors are a complex, palate-coating melange, where sweet-savory notes of licorice root, orange peel tea, date, cola and vanilla are overwhelmed by deeper impressions of blackberry, black cherry and dark plum compote. The finish is lingering and dominates the tannins nicely, so this one is dinner-worthy from the gate. Expect five years or more of steady growth, or pair it with your next Prime Rib. 525 cases produced.
This is a blockbuster wine, full bodied and ripe, yet able to hold its considerable power in check. Its well-integrated oak and sizable structure give it weight and breadth, as well as age-worthy intrigue. Red currant, cedar and cigar box mark the flavor profile. Enjoy best 2024-2034. From Rutherford, the 2014 Millenium MM Vineyard displays dusty, loamy soil undertones, some subtle herbs, blackcurrants, coffee beans and new saddle leather. It is rich, dense, round, juicy and best drunk over the next 12-15 years.
