Whitehall Lane 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini Vineyard
Whitehall Lane 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini Vineyard, St. Helena, Napa Valley
NVWE Notes: The combination of age-worthiness and early appeal notable in the great 2016 Cabs is on display in this mouth-filling wine. The aromas are forthcoming, deeply fruity, intense and spice laden, and they fan-out as a medley of Amarena cherry jam, red currant, Cassis, blackberry, cedar, sweet tobacco, dark toffee, dry sage and laurel. On the palate the wine is plush enough to suppress substantial tannin, while an ultra supple texture nurses the flavors of cherry, red currant, toffee, tobacco and espresso bean through a delicious, lingering finish. A beautiful dinner wine already, it may prove a memorable one if allowed four or five years of cellar-time.
Ripe and well-built, with warmed cassis, juicy plum and steeped blackberry fruit working together, backed by licorice root, roasted alder and loam accents on the finish. Dense but with the energy to pull it off. Best from 2022 through 2030. 385 cases made. JM Issue: Jun 30, 2020
Wine Enthisiast 92 Points
Thick, dense and rich in black fruit and baking spice, this full-bodied wine is 100% varietal. The nutmeg and cinnamon find companionship in a swirl of dark chocolate and coffee bean, the oak pronounced and grippy. Virginie Boone 7/1/2020
