NVWE Notes: Elegantly rich fruit, pretty oak and floral highlights are signatures of this wine, and the nose rolls-out as a genteel medley of baked green apple, white peach tart, vanilla wafer, brioche, hazelnut, honeysuckle and orange blossom. It is gently tongue-coating and quietly piquant in the mouth, where dried peach, dried apple, orange peel tea, and nutmeg join hazelnut and brioche at center-stage, a step ahead of a deeper core of baked green apple. Rich dried apple and subtle mineral notes are notable at the finish. A fine companion to baked fish or fowl now, it will be better yet in another year. 107 cases made.

The 2016 Chardonnay Peake Ranch Vineyard is decidedly phenolic and structured in feel. Candied lemon peel and citrus notes add brightness to a wine that can be deceptive in its first approach. I would give the 2016 at least a year or two in the cellar to let the angular contours soften with time.
