LEWIS CABERNET RESERVE '16
LEWIS CABERNET SAUVIGNON "RESERVE", NAPA VALLEY 2016
NVWE Notes: Polished and creamy if clearly age-worthy, this sophisticated Cab offers deep, focused scents of black currant, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, Cassis, violet, toffee, baking-spice, star anise, coffee bean, dark pipe tobacco, dried sage, peppercorn and a hint of pine straw. It proves "heady rich" on the palate, with a sleek creaminess of texture and the expected Lewis oaky opulence. These join with the steady fruit to suppress a spine of polished tannin. The flavors are a firm layering of concentrated black and blue fruits enveloped in sweet tobacco, baking-spice, hazelnut husk, toffee, star anise and dark mineral notes. With airing, the long finish becomes a blast of blueberry, blackberry and black fig. Expect at least five years of steady improvement, but don't be afraid to enjoy a bottle of this beauty now.
Alluring boysenberry, plum and blueberry flavors are seamlessly layered, picking up hints of mulled spice, melted licorice and ganache along the way. The ample grip is well-embedded, letting the fruit sing longest on the finish. 1,300 cases made. Drink now through 2029.
