La Pitchoune 2013 Pinot Noir Vandk
2013 La Pitchoune Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard, Sonoma Mountain
NVWE Notes: As spicy as it is fruity and as forthcoming as it is age-worthy, this is a fascinating Pinot Noir. The nose builds aromas of sour cherry, red raspberry, pomegranate, blood orange, rose, sumac, vanilla toffee, star anise and baking spices into a bright and focused medley. Things tighten-up a bit on the palate, where polished tannins and barrel notes bring contrast, yet the finish is long and the wine’s delivery already extremely satisfying: as flavors of black cherry, black raspberry, red cherry, strawberry cobbler, orange-cranberry relish, clove, anise, sandalwood, ginger root and humidor-spice find a seductive harmony. 100 cases produced.

The 2013 Pinot Noir Van Der Kamp Vineyard, from a Sonoma Mountain site made famous first by Landmark Winery, is a small 100-case cuvée. Distinctive earthiness, forest floor and spice box with a peppery edge is followed by dark cherries, blacker fruits, more structure and masculinity. This is a firm, more beastly style of Pinot, but everything is in place. Drink it over the next decade. Drink Date 2016 - 2026 Robert Parker 3 March 2016
