Kathryn Kennedy 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate
2014 Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon "Estate", Santa Cruz Mountains
NVWE Notes: This is pure Santa Cruz Mountains Cab from start to finish. The nose is deeply fruity and exotically savory, with classic SCM herbal spice and the soft-edge typical of the vintage. The aromas are a classy, focused medley of sweet plum, dark cherry, black raspberry, Cassis, violet, beet, licorice root, dark pipe tobacco, black tea and dried sage scents. It is juicy in mouth-feel, rich in weight and very expressive on the palate, where red currant, sour cherry, red plum, pomegranate, black raspberry, grilled fig, black licorice, star anise, new leather, cedar, laurel and forest floor spice notes all roll-out. Already graceful, it should grow in dimension and polish for at least five more years. 500 cases produced.
Aromas of crushed currant, plums and creamy American oak introduce the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, a medium-bodied, succulent wine with a juicy core of fruit, chewy structuring tannins and a flavorful finish. This isn't a Cabernet for those who dislike American oak, but it's nicely balanced and characterful in its style. Moreover, a recently tasted bottle of the 2006 suggests these wines age well. Kathryn Kennedy's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous wine with tons of Santa Cruz Mountains personality. Savory herb, tobacco and black olive notes, along with a palpable sense of mountain structure, are some of the signatures in this gracious, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine of restraint and understatement, the 2014 nevertheless has a lot to say and plenty to offer.
