Drinkward 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon

DRINKWARD PESCHON CABERNET SAUVIGNON "ENTRE-DEUX-MÈRES", NAPA VALLEY 2016

Vinous

93 Points

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Mères is another stellar wine from Lisa Drinkward and Françoise Peschon. Bright and wonderfully nuanced, it conveys tremendous freshness and energy. Black cherry, plum, lavender, licorice and dark spice notes build into the creamy finish as this stylish Cabernet Sauvignon shows all it's got. Readers looking for an affordable wine that captures the greatness of the 2016 vintage will find that here. As always, the Entre Deux Mères Cabernet is built on a core from Turnbull's Blossom Creek (also known as Amoenus) in Calistoga, with dollops of fruit from a handful of other sites. Drink 2021 - 2036. Antonio Galloni May 2019

NVWE Notes: This opulent Cab opens with richly fruity, darkly savory scents of blueberry, dark plum, mulberry, dark cherry cobbler, bitter chocolate, sandalwood, cedar, vanilla, clove, nutmeg and five-spice, with a hint of laurel in reserve. It is as rich as expected on the palate, where dark boysenberry, black cherry, black currant, blueberry and dark plum are wrapped in a blanket of sweet-savory and herbal flavors that echo the nose. Firmer and grippier than expected, the lingering finish shows a more classic tannic structure than the mid-palate, which suggests that the wine’s current juiciness may morph with age into a more racy and elegant style. Enjoy it now, or wait to see how elegant it becomes. 610 cases made.
