NVWE Notes: This vineyard can produce deeply structured and long-lived Zins and this knockout bottling certainly falls into both categories. The nose is a deeply-structured, sharply-focused mix of red currant, pomegranate, cranberry, white and black peppercorn and mineral scents, with background suggestions of pencil shavings and mace. On the palate it is notable for vivid zest, sharp focus and gripping undercurrents of tannin, which bring a lean feel to intense, mineral-laced and lingering flavors dominated by fruit notes of raspberry preserves, Santa Rosa plum jam, cranberry sauce, Campari and pomegranate syrup. If a great partner to peppery pork ribs and grilled meats now, it is likely years from full maturity. From 130 year-old vines.
