NVWE Notes: This hillside property typically produces darkly ripe fruit which can veer into the super-ripe to limit food-matchability. 2017 gives us balanced, focused elegance, with no loss of vineyard identity. The aromas are a fresh, forthcoming medley of Italian Maraschino cherry, dark plum, black currant, fig preserves, licorice root, clove, bouillon, cedar, sandalwood and star anise. As they air, the flavors gradually fan-out as a fresher, brighter yet otherwise near perfect mirror of the nose, delivering the expected richness and coating the palate. Already satisfying - start to finish - it should gracefully evolve for at least for five more years.

The 2017 Red Blend Hossfeld Coliseum is soft, plummy and very easy to like. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and lavender all flesh out in this racy, extravagantly ripe red. The October fires scorched the Cabernet Sauvignon, so in 2017, the Coliseum is almost all Merlot. But more importantly, the 2017 is flat-out delicious. Drink 2020 - 2029 Antonio Galloni Jan 2020
