BEDROCK CAB MONTECILLO '17
BEDROCK CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MONTECILLO VINEYARD, MOON MOUNTAIN DISTRICT SONOMA VALLEY 2017
NVWE Notes: 2017 is an exceptionally gutsy vintage for this vineyard and this is a wine worthy of cellar-time. The aromas are textbook Moon Mountain, as characteristic terroir notes of peppercorn, graphite and charcoal strongly underpin fruit and spice scents of mulberry, black currant, black raspberry, grilled fig, date sugar, dark pipe tobacco, clove and "coffee nips". There is grip aplenty on the palate, where the texture is lean, if palate-coating, and the concentrated flavors are tightly-coiled. The finish is firm, grippy and lingering and the wine is built for fatty, caramelized dark meats or rich stews. Expect at least five years of steady growth. 200 cases produced.
Antonio Galloni - Vinous
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard Old Vine is a real powerhouse that will need a bit of time to reveal the breadth of its personality. Today, it comes across as monolithic, though there is plenty of depth to the dark fruit, spice, leather and chocolate flavors. If anything, my impression is that the Montecillo needs longer time in barrel. The reality is that most top-flight 2017 California Cabernets have not been bottled yet.
