2022 was clearly an ultra-successful vintage at Weir Vineyard and this bottling is living proof. The nose is tense and densely fruit-packed, with vibrant, focused aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, raspberry cream sickle and hazelnut meringue rising above sharp mineralogy. The flavors are a forthcoming, concentrated reprise of the aromas, with the same fruit notes in high relief. As notable as they are, those flavors are firmly counterpointed by tannins and strong minerality, which reinforce the impression of internal tension found in the nose. The finish lingers beautifully, as expected, so despite the wine wanting another four years of cellar time, it is a delicious drink right now.
