Surprisingly pretty, although still clearly age-worthy, this Ferrington is less weighty that many of Williams Selyem’s more muscular previous renditions. Raspberry coulis, bottled red cherry and cherry cream sickle aromas take center stage the nose, with support from sweet star anise, baking spice and hazelnut nougat scents. Things are somewhat more gutsy and notably more structured in the mouth, where the vineyard’s tannin and minerality are counterpoints to its super-long, focused flavors. Likely four years from full expression, this bottling should show real beauty at maturity.
