Williams Selyem’s Estate vineyard is frequently plush and forthcoming, yet in 2021 firming tannins and bright zest create a tighter, more structured package. The nose centers on sweet dark cherry, black cherry, raspberry cream sickle, honey, hazelnut and toasted pine nut scents. These elements are replicated with much more reserve on the palate, where the gripping texture makes the mouth-feel less generous and the overall impression of youthful firmness carries through an otherwise very long finish. This one may need four to six years to reveal all of its secrets.
