In the ripe mold of its vintage, this fine, notably generous Cabernet opens with well-defined aromas of black cherry, sour dark cherry, cassis, clove, cedar and baking spice, along with suggestions of tobacco leaf and dried herbs that emerge as the wine airs. It proves plump and juicy on the palate, where the flavors of sour red cherry, red currant jam, baking spice, cedar, clove and sweet tobacco hold center stage. There is an impressive strain of tannic grip underlying the wines richness and this joins along rich barrel tones tends to firm and tighten the wines texture so that the lingering finish seems a bit youthfully coiled. If certain to improve for several years, when tasted at this point it leaves a lasting memory of sour red cherry, red currant jam, licorice root and sweet tobacco. A very fine dinner wine already, it should fully reveal the classic Tierra Roja medley of richness and grace in another three or four years. 250 cases produced.
