The cherry pit, sweet dark cherry, raspberry, star anise, cranberry liqueur, baking spice and hazelnut scents that come forth from this fine bottling need a bit of airing to fully reveal themselves yet when they do so they find an impressive aromatic harmony. These elements are less evolved on the palate, where citric zest and bitter-sweet cherry pit notes bring a more overtly piquant note to the mid-palate and join with the oaky hazelnut-like elements to somewhat blunt the harmony. The finish is long and well endowed with all the nose promises and this already appealing dinner wine should be very fine in 18-36 months, although by then the rating may have to be increased.
