NVWE Notes: Although California vintners often struggle with this grape, this varietally on-target effort rises well above the crowd. The nose layers rich, harmonious, forthcoming scents of red cherry galette, red plum jelly, baking-spice and hazelnut above subtler notes of blood orange, toffee and forest floor spice. Sweet cherry, plum and grenadine lead on the palate, with generous support from cranberry, mulling-spice, hazelnut and a hint of blood orange zest. The finish lingers with a food-worthy balance, although it is stiffened slightly by a bit of tannin. This already fine bottling should grow ever more appealing for the next year or two. 2200 cases made.
