The 2023 Granietsteen hails from a single vineyard of Chenin Blanc planted in 1978 that is low yielding and exposed to marine winds. This vintage, it cropped around 26hl/ha. Around 80% was raised in concrete and 20 % in older barrels for a total of 11 months. It has a lively bouquet of lanolin, wax resin and hints of chamomile coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a tensile opening and a keen line of acidity, perhaps just needing a little more texture to come through on the finish. A dash of white pepper lingers on the aftertaste. Lovely. Drinking window 2026-2042. Neal Martin
