This Pinot Noir opens with a genteel, intriguing harmony of fruity and savory scents, as dark cherry and dark boysenberry counterpoint notes of baking spice, black tea leaf, forest earth and mushroom. It is both firmer and more savory than expected on the palate where bittersweet notes of hazelnut husk and star anise join with tannin to create a gripping feel to brace the core of cherry fruit. That harmony carries through a balanced and lingering finish and this already well evolved bottling should pair nicely with veal scaloppini, roast duck and the like.
