Very ripe, fruit-packed and surprisingly powerful, the nose of this clearly age-worthy beauty melds scents of black cherry, cassis, cranberry sauce, dark sour cherry, violet, clove, cedar, licorice root, tobacco and peppercorn into a bold, focused medley. Savory flavors of sage, laurel, licorice, tobacco and foresty spice bring depth to the youthfully coiled, rather brooding dark fruit core initially displayed on the palate, while sour red cherry and cassis find center-stage as the wine airs. The finish eventually becomes a lingering reprise of the aromatic depth. This is textbook steak wine at this stage, and it wants decanting for current service, but the patient will see a much grander and more elegant wine in another four years or so. 200 cases produced.
