Remarkably elegant considering its notoriously gutsy mountain terroir, the 2019 is a splendid counterpoint to Pilcrow’s great 2018 GL. Stylish yet concentrated, the nose offers elevated aromas of blueberry, violet, Cassis and blackberry which are framed in by crushed rock minerality and subtly undercut by hints of dark herbal spice and forest earth. It is amazingly sleek on the palate, where the tannins are substantial yet are easily overwhelmed by the combination of an ultra-silky texture and focused flavors of blueberry, violet, blackberry, pomegranate and black currant, all of which linger with vivid clarity. Already a great pleasure to drink, it is likely six to eight years from its full expression. 165 cases produced.
