NVWE Notes: This is a remarkably elegant and truly Margaux-like Cabernet Sauvignon, an achievement essentially unheard of from Mount Veeder. The aromas are a vivid, polished and gorgeously focused melange of blueberry, violet and purple plum fruit poised above a deeper core of sour red cherry: all of this in seamless harmony with sweet-savory spice notes of cedar, mace, clove, hazelnut, sage, laurel and a hint of graphite. Despite its place of origin and obvious youth, it is racy and wonderfully supple on the palate, as flavors that are a blueprint of the nose suppress the Mt Veeder tannins almost entirely. The finish is ultra-long and already dinner-friendly and it adds-in notes of red currant, grenadine and sweet tobacco at the end. This beauty will grow ever more lovely over the next five years and will prove a fascinating contrast to Pilcrow’s muscular Granite Lake bottling. 143 cases produced.
