Peter Michael 2019 Chardonnay La Carriere
2019 Peter Michael Winery Chardonnay la Carriere Knights Valley
La Carriere is situated at an elevation of around 1,200-1,700 feet with a rocky, shallow, volcanic soil that gives low fertility and is among the lowest yields of all the Peter Michael vineyards. The vineyard is planted to Dijon and Hyde (Old Wente) clone selections. A tank sample due to be bottled in the next day or so, the 2019 Chardonnay la Carriere reveals delicate scents of fresh green apples, white peaches and preserved lemons with hints of chalk dust, orange blossoms and coriander seed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a satiny texture with bags of freshness lifting the mineral-tinged citrus flavors to a long finish. 2,836 cases were made. Drink Date 2022 - 2037. NVWE Notes: Offering the textbook La Carriere mix of forthcoming, elegant fruit, vibrant zest and firming mineral undercurrents, the nose of this beauty delivers scents of white peach, fresh apple, golden fig, lemon, mock orange, hazelnut nougat and honey cut by sharp-edged minerality. In the mouth it proves tongue-coating and quite opulent, yet sleek in texture due to zest and mineral elements that both highlight and stiffen the lingering fruit, citrus and honey flavors. Very long and certainly youthful, it will give great pleasure now yet much more in another year or three as all of its disparate parts evolve into harmony.
Offers violet and red berry hints on the nose, with flavors to match, plus crunchy Gala apple and Asian pear flavors. The refined finish offers crisp spiciness and minerally accents. Drink now through 2024. 2,823 cases made. Issue date: July 31st, 2021 KM
