Peirson Meyer 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
2017 Peirson Meyer Cabernet Sauvignon Kenefick Ranch Calistoga, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score: 95 Points
NVWE Notes: This Cab showcases the depth of the fine 2017 vintage and the pedigree of its Calistoga vineyard from the start. The nose offers aromas of dark cherry, black cherry, Cassis, dark boysenberry, red plum, baking-spice, tobacco, graphite and dark earth of near-heady ripeness. On the palate juicy-rich fruit and creamy oak notes soothe away the roughness expected from an otherwise rich spine of tannin. The result is a flavor-rich, lingering finish where loads of black cherry fruit and star anise push to the forefront. Although likely at least three years from maturity it is a pleasure already. 150 cases made.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, from Kenefick Ranch, is very shut down today, but clearly has terrific fruit density and depth. Muscular tannins wrap around a core of red fruit, flowers blood orange and white pepper. The Peirson Meyer Cabernet needs a bit of time to soften, as so many wines do in 2017. Drink 2022 - 2032.
