2016 Peirano Estate Zinfandel Imortal Old Vine "Heritage" Lodi

NVWE Notes: This is not a big, ponderous Zinfandel, but old vines always add richness and depth, which are on display here. The aromas are a slightly jammy mix of strawberry jam, mulberry cobbler, cherry galette, raspberry coulis, date, fig, dark rose and black peppercorn. It is texturally rich yet attractively soft-edged on the palate, where notes of toffee, smoked game and dried herbs join the fruity-peppery aromatic mix. The finish lingers well, with good dinner balance, although the wine is delicious all by itself. 3000 cases produced.
