Medium to deep ruby-purple, the 2020 Syrah Peake Ranch Vineyard features blackcurrant, blueberry, bitter chocolate and coffee bean aromas. Full-bodied and powerful, the palate has rounded tannins and freshness and a pleasantly herbal finish. Very stylish, if still clearly youthful, the aromas of this classy wine fan out as a medley of red raspberry, pomegranate syrup, sour dark cherry, pink peppercorn, bresaola and hazelnut husk scents. There is impressive impact on the palate, where tannin, mineralogy, zest and bitter-sweet nut husk notes bring structure to extremely long lasting flavors of pomegranate syrup, raspberry, grenadine, red cherry, licorice root, pink peppercorn, mace, cedar and a hint of rattan. Already delicious and at its best with fatty meats like pork roast or seared duck breast, it will certainly improve for at least three more years.
