Clean and ripe aromas of cherry, rose petal and loamy earth make for an attention-grabbing nose on this bottling, another show of the Rhône promise of the Sta. Rita Hills. There's a rich, creamy texture to the palate, yet loads of acid and hard spices that push dark strawberry, cardamom and cinnamon flavors deep into the finish.12/1/2022 Matt Kettmann

If firm and still youthful at opening, this classy wine expands as it airs to truly show its vineyard pedigree. The aromas are revealed as a bright, focused medley of wild strawberry, grenadine, pomegranate, Campari, red plum, violet, pink peppercorn and sumac berry scents, poised above emerging suggestions of cardamom, coriander seed and mace. It is sleek in texture, slightly gripping and attractively piquant on the palate, where flavors of grenadine, Campari, cranberry liqueur, pink rose, pink peppercorn and star anise fan out with chiseled precision. That pinpoint balance carries through a lingering, notably food friendly finish. If sure to be delicious with crusted pork roast, seared duck breast or grilled sausage pilaf right now, it is likely to be better still in another eighteen months and well beyond. 269 cases produced.
