NVWE Notes: Hossfeld Vineyard, better known as the “Coliseum Block”, produces big, age-worthy Cabs, yet this perfectly ripe wine shows class as well. The nose is a juicy, spicy, gutsy melange of Cassis, dark boysenberry, black raspberry, sour dark cherry, vanilla, mace, bitter chocolate and licorice root. It is brighter and more stylish on the palate, where black cherry, black raspberry, red boysenberry, violet, mace, coffee bean, licorice root and darkly-earthy spice notes find a focused, lingering, food-worthy harmony. Delicious now, it should grow in elegance and expression over the next four years and be a lovely dinner wine for long after
