Rich and forthcoming, the nose of this wine offers scents of canela, mace and Campari liqueur, in support of a deeper core suggestive of Bing cherry, lingonberry, boysenberry and concord grape jelly. It is bigger and more savory on the palate, where star anise, coriander seed, mace and a hint of cinnamon combine to counterpoint fruit flavors of red plum, grenadine, Bing cherry and boysenberry. There is zest and some grip in the lingering, food-worthy finish, where lingonberry and star anise are highlights. Almost mature, it is built for service with grilled pork chops, savory steaks or flavorful baked chicken dishes, although it will do nicely with tomato sauce-based entrees as well.
