Opus One 2018
2018 Opus One Proprietary Red Wine Oakville, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score 97+ Points
Showcasing the virtues of its highly regarded vintage, this Opus has a bright future. If notably youthful, it is stylish and complex and carries the backbone and depth to develop impressively over time. The nose opens with focused aromas of dark sour cherry, black cherry, blueberry, Cassis, pomegranate, violet, red rose, toffee, cedar, mace and baking-spice, poised above a backdrop of dark forest earth. There is more zest and firmness than expected in the mouth, where flavors of dark cherry, Cassis, blueberry, violet, rose, clove, star anise, baking-spice, hazelnut nougat and some earthy undercurrents come on strong and linger through a high impact finish. Dinner-balanced already, it should grow in weight and dimension over the next five years to ten years. 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petite Verdot, 5% Merlot , 4% Cabernet Franc & 1% Malbec.

Very deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Opus One soars out of the glass with bright, bold boysenberries, warm cassis and ripe, juicy black plums notes, plus emerging nuances of lilacs, oolong tea, cinnamon stick, tilled soil and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with tightly wound layers of crunchy black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing with lifted fruitiness and on a lingering mineral note.
