This is clearly a great vintage for Mount Eden’s “Estate” bottling and the aromas surge forth in a plush, seductive perfume of dark Bing cherry, strawberry preserve, dried cranberry, filé, rattan, toffee, saddle leather, dry herb and forest floor scents. It is as opulently fruity and as intense as expected on the mid-palate where piquant zest and firming tannins provide backbone to underpin a luxurious palate-feel. The finish is extremely long and deliciously satisfying and the lingering memory is of raspberry, dried dark cherry, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie spice, filé, leather, mace and toffee flavors in a sweet-natured medley.
