2009 Pierre Morlet Brut Champagne 1er Cru Avenay-Val-D’Or  Champagne

This vibrant wine seems significantly more youthful than its age suggests and it grows much more sophisticated and lovely as it airs. The aromas are a complex medley of chestnut honey, peach tart, nutmeg, buttered croissant and toasted nut scents. It displays a fine mousse and is as bright as expected on the palate, where the flavors deliver a richer version of all the elements suggested in the nose and a dark streak of minerality joins in through the lingering finish. Built for  lobster ravioli and squid ink pasta, it should only get better over the next several years.
