Marty Mathis is best known for his wonderful Kathryn Kennedy Cabernets and Sparkling wines and this fine Gruner is his latest project. The aromas are a firm yet forthcoming mix of lime, green melon rind, golden berry, dried orange peel, nut husk and chalk scents. These notes create a piquantly fresh and chalky dry impression on the palate, where the fruit flavors have a sleek, palate-coating feel. There is fine focus at the end, where lingering honeydew melon, golden berry and candied lime peel flavors counterpoint the mineral expressions. Delicious and food-worthy, it should grow more so over the next twelve months.
