If at first a bit youthfully reticent, this tasty wine expands rapidly to full expression after a bit of airing. Clearly rich and ripe, the nose then offers focused aromas of sour red cherry, red currant jam, violet, black raspberry, peppercorn, tobacco leaf, cedar and hazelnut nougat in a classy harmony. It is even richer yet light on its feet and every bit as focused on the palate, with fine zest, very good concentration and admirable length that is notable to the very end. The lasting flavors prove a fine replica of the aromas, but with notes of cherry jam, black raspberry and licorice root at center stage. Delightful already, it may well improve for another three years.
