Certainly among the best Hyde vineyard Pinot Noirs in our memory, this impressively evolved 2019 marries an autumnal personality to the pleasures of youth. The aromas fans out as a medley of dark cherry, blood orange, mulling spice, star anise and hazelnut poised above an emerging undercurrent of forest mushroom. It is fresher than expected on the palate and still shows a trace of tannic grip in support of vibrant flavors of pomegranate, blood orange, red cherry, panettone, hazelnut, baking spice, mineral undercurrents and suggestions of wild mushroom. Lingering, with textbook food-worthy structure, it seems built for service with seared duck breast. Intriguingly, it could be better still in another eighteen months. 450 cases produced.
