This is a near-perfect example of old fashioned Sonoma Petite Sirah, with all of its virtues on display. The aromas are a focused, gutsy medley of black raspberry, black peppercorn, blueberry, licorice root, molasses, Schezuan peppercorn and graphite scents. It is surprisingly polished and attractively zesty in the mouth, where Petite Sirah’s celebrated tannins are easily subdued by a layering of juicy fruit. On the palate, notes of red cherry and pomegranate bring brightness to a richer core of blueberry, blackberry and peppercorn, while minerality and earthy-savory counterpoints add depth. It should prove a hearty dinner companion for the next five to ten years.
