Like Kerr’s brilliant 2017 G3 Cab, this is a beautiful wine with a great future, and it offers aromas that are concentrated, focused and extremely complex. These scents are a harmonious medley of sour red cherry, blueberry, dark boysenberry, clove, cedar, baking spice and sweet dark pipe tobacco. Things are denser and more obviously youthful on the palate, where tannins and tightly concentrated, ultra-long fruit are a hallmark. Current drinkers should be aware that decanting or extended airing produces a remarkable transformation, bringing the wine’s true glory to the forefront so that the mouth-feel becomes opulent and silky, while luxurious layers of blueberry and sweet dark cherry counterpoint lovely sweet-savory oak tones and dark terroir elements. Those with cellars can expect this wonderful Cab to improve for at least five more years and likely hold for at least a decade beyond. 206 cases produced.
