Kamen 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
2018 Kamen Cabernet Sauvigno “Estate” Moon Mountain Sonoma Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score: 97 Points
NVWE Notes: Fruit-centric and terroir-packed, the 2018 Kamen surges-forth with aromas of of black currant, blueberry-blackberry compote, black cherry, violet, date, fig, cedar, dark tobacco, graphite, charcoal and black peppercorn. It proves as cream-rich as hoped on the palate, where the signature Moon Mountain mineral, savory and herbal spice notes come through loud and clear but can neither eclipse nor distract from the luxurious fruit. The tannins, which primarily act as a drying contrast in the lingering finish are substantial yet polished, so they never intrude on the wines textural suppleness. Delicious already and certain to improve for six to twelve years, it will easily live thirty.
Offers alluring warm plum sauce and crushed açaí berry aromas and flavors that move through this with focus despite the rather lush feel. Subtle alder and sage accents line the finish, with a nice underpinning of iron. Distinctive in feel and profile. Drink now through 2030. 2,750 cases made. JM Insider Issue: Mar 24, 2021
