Kamen 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
2018 Kamen Cabernet Sauvigno “Estate” Moon Mountain Sonoma Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score: 97 Points
NVWE Notes: Fruit-centric and terroir-packed, the 2018 Kamen surges-forth with aromas of of black currant, blueberry-blackberry compote, black cherry, violet, date, fig, cedar, dark tobacco, graphite, charcoal and black peppercorn. It proves as cream-rich as hoped on the palate, where the signature Moon Mountain mineral, savory and herbal spice notes come through loud and clear but can neither eclipse nor distract from the luxurious fruit. The tannins, which primarily act as a drying contrast in the lingering finish are substantial yet polished, so they never intrude on the wines textural suppleness. Delicious already and certain to improve for six to twelve years, it will easily live thirty.

A gorgeous wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is also one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted from Kamen. It expresses all of the natural intensity of this site, but with a bit less extraction than in the past. which is not a bad thing at all. Blackberry jam, gravel, lavender, chocolate and crushed rocks flesh out in a sensual, wonderfully inviting Cabernet that hits all the right notes. The 2018 could benefit from a few years in bottle, but it is absolutely stellar today. Drink 2025 - 2038. Antonio Galloni Jan 2022
