Vinous (96 Points): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. Rich, inky and spectacularly ripe, the 2017 is loaded with the character that makes this Moon Mountain property so special. A whole range of red and purplish fruit, spice, lavender, mint and licorice builds as this sumptuous, exotically beautiful Cabernet shows off its alluring personality. What I find most remarkable about the 2017 is how it is so full-bodied and explosive, yet not overly heavy. The 2017 is one of the best vintages - maybe the best - I have ever tasted here. NVWE Notes: This is a majestic Cabernet. The nose opens as a massively rich, dauntingly ripe, concentrated, youthfully coiled yet gorgeously focused layering of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, black peppercorn, Mr. Lincoln rose, graphite, charcoal, dark tobacco and forest-floor scents. It is as operatic as expected on the palate, where vibrant zest, gripping tannins and dark minerality create a balancing counterpoint to all the dramatic cherry-berry centered fruit and luxurious spice. After seaming almost too ripe at opening, the wine develops truly surprising elegance as it airs, ultimately revealing a 1st Growth-esque mix of polish and grandeur. If pleasurable now for its sheer intensity, this beauty will easily develop for a decade and may cruise through another few on its way to a graceful old age. 1535 cases produced.
