Notable for both its youthfully bright fruit and for the controlled intensity of its oaky spice, the nose of this fine bottling centers on black currant and black raspberry, with blueberry, violet and pomegranate syrup hints joining to dominate subtly savory counterpoints of dark tobacco, clove, cedar and baking spice. Blueberry, blackberry and cassis are at center stage on the palate, where the fruit is both piquantly bright and lingering, while tannin firms yet never coarsens the texture. The savory elements are a pretty footnote at the end. Perhaps four years from achieving its full maturity, it will certainly be a delicious dinner companion from this day forward, if decanted.
