This Cabernet offers immediately forthcoming, textbook Howell Mountain aromas that fan out as a gorgeous medley of dark sweet cherry, black currant, mulberry, blueberry, violet, lavender, coffee bean, dark toffee, laurel and graphite scents. The wine is just as focused, but is slightly more reserved on the palate where mineral undercurrents join polished “big vintage” tannins to firm up the mouth-feel and tamp down the exuberance expressed in the nose. The finish is very long and the style is dinner-friendly, so despite its youth, it should prove a delicious dinner wine now when given a bit of airing. It will improve for at least five years and could prove long-lived. 54 cases produced.
