After the cork is pulled, this youthful Pinot Noir gracefully unfolds to reveal buoyant, focused aromas of raspberry coulis, sour red cherry, lingonberry, blood orange zest, mace and toffee, all poised above firming minerality. It proves as pretty as expected yet surprisingly zesty on the palate, where hints of star anise and canella add to the rich red fruit flavors to create a lingering and food-worthy medley that, despite the wine’s immediate appeal, promises significantly grander pleasures in another eighteen to twenty-four months. Although the bottle suggests “California” as this wine’s appellation, the fruit actually comes from the Occidental area in the West Sonoma Coast. 240 cases produced.
