Chappellet Merlots are always attractive and this vintage is no exception. The nose is ripe, gently floral, focused, and offers vivid aromas of black raspberry, pomegranate syrup, sour dark cherry, crushed dark rose, dry sage, toasted rosemary, clove, graphite and dark forest earth. These diverse elements seem fresher and more tightly coiled on the palate, where the texture is sleek and the flavors linger impressively. A fine dinner wine already, it will surely improve nicely over the next two years and will benefit from a bit of airing now.
