2019 Cedarville Viognier Fair Play,  El Dorado County
NVWE Notes: The aromas of this Condrieu-esque rendering are a tightly focused, attractively zesty mix of pear, white peach, jasmine, white rose, white pepper and mineral scents. In the mouth, things open with the expected Viognier creaminess, but that is instantly contrasted by zest and strong mineral notes to create a lip-smacking tension. At the finish, although all of the rich aromatic suggestions are delivered, the lingering richness of that fruit is turned hard-dry by sea shell-like salinity. Ready to enjoy, it will be terrific with raw sea foods, seared scallops or quenelles. Organically Farmed, 180 cases made.

This full-bodied wine is big and broad from the first whiff of salted, roasted almonds to ripe fig flavors and an almost custard-like finish. It's not so much ripe fruitiness but rich baking spices and buttered popcorn that lead the charge. Jim Gordon 8/1/2020
