If neither as powerful nor as weighty as Carter’s other Las Piedras Cab, this “La Bam” bottling is more forthcoming, focused, elegant and satisfying. The nose offers a potpourri of fruity, savory and herbal scents, with sweet red cherry, boysenberry, violet, blueberry, dry sage, laurel, sweet tobacco and baking spice all in evidence. In the mouth, it is medium-bodied (atypical for a Carter Cab), wonderfully supple, and has surprisingly soft tannins that never intrude on the focused harmony the lovely fruit and spice achieve or on the wine's obvious dinner-worthiness. The finish is impressively long and the wine is a pleasure to drink already, yet things will grow even lovelier and more expressive in drinking is delayed for another year or two.
