Calera 2017 Chardonnay Mt. Harlan
2017 Calera Chardonnay “Estate” Mount Harlan, Monterey
San Francisco Wine Panel Score 94 Points
Creamy oak, ripeness, zest and saline minerality are notable features of this fine wine and they create a framework for the aromas and flavors that are delivered. The nose offers scents of peach, nectarine, pear, baked apple, baking-spice and hazelnut nougat along with floral suggestion of orange blossom and honeysuckle. These elements are mirrored yet seem both fuller and rounder on the palate, where their opulence is tempered by zest and strong minerality. Lingering and rich, it is built for service with richly sauced or buttery entrees. 1900 cases produced.
Hailing from Josh Jensen's iconic vineyard at 2,200 feet above the Salinas Valley, this is an epic Chardonnay, loaded with clean, lively aromas of cherimoya, honeysuckle, sweet cream, crisp peach, struck flint and chive. The palate is tightly wound, with flavors of lemon spray, seared nectarine, sea salt and toasted oak. Matt Kettmann 9/1/2019
