This is a hearty Zinfandel that grows in aroma and flavor with airing. As the nose unfolds, focused scents of dark plum, blackberry, blueberry and black cherry dominate the nose, while notes of black peppercorn, dark earth, Bourbon vanilla pipe tobacco and laurel provide support. These elements are brighter, fresher and more notably youthful on the palate, where tannins and notes of cranberry, pomegranate and cherry pit bring piquancy. It is racy, zesty and perfect right now for service with barbecued meats. Another eighteen months of cellar-time will bring the polish needed for service with a broader mix of food applications.
