Bevan Tench 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon
2018 Bevan Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard Oakville, Napa Valley
San Francisco Wine Panel Score 98+ Points
This borderline-majestic Cabernet needs a bit airing to reveal its many dimensions. The nose is a heady-ripe, focused, concentrated mélange of black currant, blueberry, black cherry, Italian Maraschino cherry, black fig, violet, clove, cedar, baking-spice, Victorian Toffee, sweet tobacco and dark forest-floor scents. Those flavors prove as ultra-rich as expected on the palate, where luxurious oak tones, fine fruit acidity, sweet-savory spice and mineral undercurrents wrap around an operatic core of black and red fruits. There is plenty of tannin beneath all that lingering fruit but it does not blunt the flavor, so this one will serve well now with Prime Rib and the like. It should be stunning within four or five years and will likely improve for many after. 1005 cases produced.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard was aged for 19 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with vibrant scents of black cherries, boysenberries and cassis followed by suggestions of menthol, licorice and tobacco leaf. Medium-full, firm, fine-grained and lively with great intensity and loads of mineral sparks, it finishes with great purity. 1,005 cases were made. Drink Date 2022 - 2044.
