Just beginning to truly shine, this Howell Mountain 2013 is approaching its glory days. The aromas are well evolved and seductive, centering on red cherry, red currant, clove, cedar, sweet tobacco, toffee, baking-spice and licorice root scents. There is intensity, polish and classic balance on the palate, where firm tannic structure underpins deep, seductive flavors. Those flavors are wonderfully harmonious and super-long, with cherry, current, oaky spice and terroir elements all in play. Terrific now with sauced or fatty meats, it will improve for another three years and give pleasure for years.
