In style and personality this wine harkens back to great mountain Cabs of the 1960s and 1970s. The aromas are extremely deep and every bit as concentrated, and they fan out as a focused mélange of sour dark cherry, pomegranate syrup, violet, red currant jam, cinnamon “red hots’, licorice root, briar, sweet tobacco leaf, baking spice and died herbal scents. There is terrific grip and fruit intensity on the palate, where an almost muscular tension between flavor and texture brands this as truly classic Mt. Veeder Cab. The flavors are intense and brightly chiseled and the push of sour red fruits and savory/minerally spice never flags. A pleasure with Prime Rib right now, it has an easy five to ten years of positive growth ahead. 800 cases produced.
